Doug McIlwraith

Did you know that Doug McIlwraith...

...was once left behind on a choir trip when he was a choirboy. Everyone wanted chips and went to the chip shop, Mr McIlwraith preferred the hot dog option next door but when he emerged, hot dog in hand, the bus had gone. The saddest part of this tale is that no-one noticed until the bus reached home!

...after a particularly successful concert of music by Handel he offered to buy the leader of the orchestra a drink in the nearby Thistle Hotel. Unfortunately, the oh so very old violin (which had been around since Handel was a teenager) was left on the pub floor in a soft case and the hapless Mr McIlwraith tripped over it and squashed it flat with his bottom! The only thing left to do was order another drink..!

...despite being (at times) a terrible musical snob, one look at his Ipod playlists would reveal some of his darkest secrets: 'My Way', sung in French, Spanish and German; 'Morning Train' by Sheena Easton; 'Boogie, oogie, oogie' by Taste of Honey; 'Pump up the Jam' by Technotronic and 'Crazy in Love' by Beyonce are amongst his guiltiest pleasures.
